The Starry Fruit

Guo'er’s mother ran off with another man when Guo'er was twelve, leaving her and her father to depend on each other. Her father once told her, “Guo'er, from now on, it’ll just be the two of us. I won’t find another woman, so you won’t have a stepmother.” Guo'er never forgot those words.

But three years later, her father came home with an auntie who was even prettier than her mother. The woman also had a daughter who was a year younger than Guo'er. Her father said, “Guo'er, Auntie Li will be your mother from now on. Yun'er is a year younger than you, so you’re the older sister. Make sure you take good care of her.”

After that, having a stepmother meant having a stepfather too. Her father never cared about her again, and Guo'er dropped out of school. Following an address her grandmother gave her, she went to N City to look for her mother. But with no family, no connections, and no money, Guo'er was tricked into becoming a surrogate. She gave birth to a boy and a girl.

Five years later, Guo'er made a dazzling comeback and, with her daughter by her side, turned N City upside down. The CEO of Huarun finally found her, too. Having gotten her back after losing her, he pleaded with her, “Honey, you were so hard to find. Don't you want me and our son anymore?” In private, he coldly warned everyone who had hurt Guo'er, “How dare you hurt my wife and children? Are you trying to get yourselves killed?”
