This book collects some of the works I have created from the 1970s to the present, including folk arts, Errenzhuan, skits, and traveling stage plays. Most have won awards at performances at the provincial level or above. Some have also become widely known among the public, turning into signature pieces for many Errenzhuan performers and stars. They have been warmly welcomed by audiences, making this a rare and valuable collection of performance material.
Northeastern local theater, with its distinctive regional character, including Errenzhuan, traveling stage plays, and skits, is loved by audiences across the country. It has produced stars such as Zhao Benshan, Gao Xiumin, and Yan Xuejing. One crucial factor behind their success must not be overlooked: the scripts. A script is the foundation of a play. Without scripts, where would the stars come from? Where would the big names come from? In the Northeast, there are many writers like He Qingkui. They simply haven't had the same opportunities or good fortune as He Qingkui.
Drama is probably the hardest literary form to master, because it is written for an audience and constrained by the limits of time and space on stage. It needs characters and stories like a novel, language like poetry, and, above all, a twisting, well-paced plot, polished language, wit, humor, and the ability to delight both the eyes and ears.
About the author: Li Pengfei is a National First-Class Playwright, one of the first Outstanding Workers in the National Cultural System, former Vice Chairman of the Jilin Errenzhuan Artists Association, a Jilin Province Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent, a celebrated Jilin Errenzhuan playwright, and an influential theater artist. His honors include the Jilin Changbai Mountain Literary and Art Award, the Errenzhuan Outstanding Achievement Award, the Award for Outstanding Contributions commemorating the centenary of Chinese spoken drama, and first prize in the Golden Tiger Awards for mid-length television dramas in the three northeastern provinces.
