"The Shackles of Humanity" is Maugham's autobiographical classic work, and it is also considered to be an important masterpiece that is second to none and widely circulated.
Together with "The Moon and Sixpence", "The Veil" and "The Blade", it laid the foundation of Maugham's "story master" and his unique position in literary history.
The story is based on Maugham's personal experience, describing the complete process of the disabled protagonist Philip from being an orphan to growing up.
Family, love, friendship, campus, art, ideals, amidst the many shackles, it is hard to find freedom, but it is difficult to find it, and finally find that this is the true face of human nature.
Can we get rid of the shackles of human nature? What is growing up and what is maturity? The answer is floating in the wind, with laughter and tears.
"Why don't you write another novel like "The Chains of Humanity"?"
"Because I only live once. It took me thirty years to collect the materials for this story."
Originally titled "The Artistic Life of Stephen Kelly", it was first published in 1915; it has been adapted into movies and plays several times.

There will always be someone who will heal the trauma of being bullied in childhood, comfort the heart hurt by first love, and let go of being teased and betrayed by friends. Love is the greatest power in the world, spanning years and life. I am willing to give up my freedom and become your support, needed and loved by you.
This book is like a dear friend, sharing the ups and downs and insights of life with you. Maugham truly depicts the complexity of human nature with his delicate brushwork. As the book says, "Life is like a Persian carpet, just woven randomly without any purpose." We are constantly looking for freedom in life, but we are bound by various shackles. This book made me deeply realize that growth and maturity are not achieved overnight, but are constantly explored through experience. Highly recommended!
Maugham's writing has a strong appeal that makes people read it unconsciously. After reading it, they feel lost, as if they have returned from a fantasy world to ordinary life. There are too few Maugham's long works. If I could, I would fill a shelf with Maugham's books. There are too few.
Beautiful as a dream
As good looking as a thorn bird
If you live in the novel, you should think of it as solving your own doubts. Because we have psychological doubts when we come into contact with people {(°△°; "}!
[Cool] I'm going to open the author's second book one day📖
Ultra-delicate emotional expression, the good and evil qualities of human nature, dreams and life choices. It may be a bit boring at first, but the more you read, the more interesting the book becomes. Five stars for this book.
