Immortal Funerals, Blind Suona Player, Hall of Rebirth

Of all the instruments under heaven, the suona reigns supreme. It either sends you to heaven or plays at your wedding. Funerals are the last dignity afforded to mortals. As the master of the Wangsheng Hall, when his suona sounds, he guides the dead on their journey to the afterlife. This is a good deed that earns him merit and blessings from the netherworld, bringing him good fortune. At the same time, he can steal the years of life the dead had left. Ten years reveal the turning of the seasons; a hundred years bear witness to birth, aging, sickness, and death. A thousand years bring the rise and fall of dynasties; ten thousand years reveal the shifting stars. Immortals and gods walk the world, demons and monsters found kingdoms, nobles and generals vie for power, dragon maidens hold lanterns, and a hundred ghosts roam by night. Wild foxes meditate on Zen, fierce tigers comprehend the Dao. All of it has passed. Qi Wuya sits and lies amid the mortal world, watching the long years go by and regarding worldly affairs, joys, sorrows, and partings with detached calm. To him, it is all no more than a tune played, a cloth laid over the dead, and the final note fading away. “My name is Qi Wuya. My life has no end.”
