During the "Cultural Revolution", Peng Dehuai was framed and brutally persecuted by Lin Biao and Jiang Qing's counter-revolutionary group, and was beaten many times. Died on November 29, 1974. In 1978, the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China vindicated him and restored his reputation.
