The blazing red words “Resuscitation in Progress” burn the eyes of everyone present. He stands to one side, invisible, watching the work around the operating table with cold detachment.
“What’s the point?”
With one thought from the Grim Reaper, life fades away. His handsome eyes hold little feeling, just as people imagine the embodiment of endless darkness would.
But the spirits wandering around the hospital clearly saw how, after Zhong Shi fell asleep from exhaustion following a resuscitation, the Grim Reaper tentatively touched the sleeping woman’s face, only for the tips of his own ears to turn bright red.
He leans close to her ear and speaks softly. “Don’t be afraid. It’s all over.” The hand he reaches out to smooth the furrow in her brow as she sleeps is utterly pure.
In Zhong Shi’s dream, she once saw this scene: a silver-masked man gently covered her eyes and softly said, “Don’t be afraid.”
In an instant, the danger passes. She sees the silver-masked man standing in a pool of blood, looking like a demon risen from hell. Only his eyes, fixed on her, are unbearably gentle.
