The Assassin Princess Consort Looks Frail and Easy to Bully, but Her True Identity Shocks the World

(No golden finger + devoted couple + fictional setting + assassin secret identity + happy ending)

The noble ladies of the capital had long coveted the position of the Regent's wife, but in the end, an obscure woman named Xia Jingtang came out of nowhere and claimed it.

It was bad enough that she was awkward and couldn't express herself, but she was also frail and sickly. The noble ladies were so disgruntled that they gossiped about her behind her back every day.

That was, until the name of the assassin guild's most-wanted list, a source of nightly terror in the capital, was leaked. Xia Jingtang's name was right at the top.

After that, no one dared say another word.

The powerful Regent married Xia Jingtang, the daughter of the Minister of Revenue.

Though frail and taciturn, Xia Jingtang was exceptionally virtuous.

Not long after she joined the household, the capital was swept up in a fad for wives making pastries for their husbands. She joined in, too. The lotus pastries she made kept the Regent from getting out of bed for three whole days...

Everyone knew that although the Regent's wife was gentle and quiet, her devotion to him was unwavering. As time passed, the Regent grew increasingly unable to stop thinking about his wife.

Then one day, on a whim, he came home early.

To his surprise, he caught his delicate, helpless wife swiftly killing a bandit, then warily turning the tip of her blade toward him.

Heartbroken, the Regent resolved to make a painful sacrifice. “After all these years as husband and wife, how could you deceive me like this? Let me make one thing clear: if you dare lay a finger on me, I'll get down on my knees!”

What he was sacrificing was his pride.

Xia Jingtang's eyes flickered. She hadn't even made a move when the Regent's legs gave way and he dropped to his knees, putting on a pitiful look in hopes she'd remember their intimate moments together. “Please spare my life, my wife.”
