Also known as The Long Road Ahead, Walking with You
The novel has two storylines.
The first is a domestic drama, which comes later, beginning in Chapter 18. It follows Fan Rushuang, who is forced to leave her childhood sweetheart, Zou Zhengyang, because her father gambles away money and incurs debts. She is married off as a concubine to Song Tangjun. The two remain devoted to each other, quietly making sacrifices for one another, but their different social positions keep their feelings within proper bounds. In the end, her father gambles away all her savings. Her mother fails to understand her, and her mother-in-law relentlessly torments her. Disillusioned, she decides to end her life, but Zou Zhengyang saves her.
The second is a fantasy storyline:
There is a nearly ten-thousand-year-old unsolved case in the mortal realm. The Heavenly Emperor has repeatedly sent a divine lord to lie low among mortals and investigate, but he has never managed to solve it. Changyuan descends to the mortal realm to find her older brother, but unexpectedly finds her true love as well. She also solves the ancient case by chance, uncovering a vast conspiracy capable of overturning the three realms. The mystery of her origins gradually comes to light...
Hengming: “Those from different realms must not fall in love. Those who break this rule will be cast into the eighteenth level of hell. You and Tangjun should end things now.”
Changyuan: “Master, does it hurt to be cast into the eighteenth level of hell?”
Hengming: “It hurts, but the eighteenth level is nothing compared to what awaits you!”
Changyuan: “My lord, if you fall for me, you'll be sent to the eighteenth level of hell. Aren't you afraid?”
Song Tangjun: “I would gladly take your hand and journey with you to the underworld.”
Changyu, supremely arrogant: “Who dares lock up my sister?!”
It looks good. It's really good. I hope it will live up to Sauvignon Blanc.
