The Laid-Back Daily Life of a Salted-Fish Girl

(The first part of this story is everyday life; the latter part is full of melodrama. It's got everything, keeps up with current trends, and the heroine speaks her mind. The male lead does too, and he's the fatherly type. Please don't compare it to so many other novels.)

(A sincere note: this story is written to suit the author's tastes. If it's not for you, please move on. Thanks for understanding.)

Bai Zhi was never much trouble from the moment she was born. She hardly ever cried, and even when she did, she had her older brother to look after her, along with Jing Jie, the boy next door.

Bai Zhi: Brother Jing, I want ice cream.

Jing Jie: Just a little, okay? Don't eat too much. I'll find you a small one. Don't have too much cold stuff.

Bai Zhi stared at him expressionlessly. Jing Jie gazed back at her with a gentle smile. They stared into each other's eyes until Bai Zhi's brother, Bai Shu, saw them exchanging meaningful glances and shouted in annoyance, “Bai Zhi, I'm your brother! You should be calling me. Jing Jie, you jerk, why are you always stealing my sister?”

Bai Zhi looked at her brother expressionlessly and said, “I want ice cream, Bro. Get it for me. I don't feel like moving.”

Jing Jie replied, “No. Your period's coming, so you should eat less.”

Bai Shu immediately backed down, afraid their mom would beat him into orbit.

Bai Zhi kept staring at him, but Bai Shu looked everywhere except at her.

Jing Jie heard this and said, “Give me a kiss, and I'll let you have one more bite, okay?”

“Sure,” Bai Zhi replied, then quickly kissed him. Bai Shu immediately sprang up and punched him.

A little while later, the two mothers exchanged glances and nodded. What a perfect match, hehe.
