After Lin Shu transmigrates to the 1970s, she activates the Ingredient System. She plans to keep a low profile, save up to buy a home, and lie flat, but on the way to the countryside assignment, she “sits down hard and lands herself a boyfriend.” She joins forces with the shy chef Shen Zhao to make a life together, writing articles and trading in local produce as they quietly save their first nest egg. When the college entrance exams are reinstated, they take the exams together, steer clear of policy-related risks, and return to Beijing. They open a restaurant and settle into a life of “lying flat and collecting rent.”
