Fengya Song: the Visible Civilization of the Song Dynasty

This manuscript is an interesting book about the "elegant" life in the Song Dynasty. Starting from the novel perspective of Song Dynasty paintings, the author combines documentary records and previous research results to reveal several aspects of the "elegant" life of the Song Dynasty. He vividly displays before readers the life scenes of Song people living and eating, burning incense and ordering tea, going to markets and trades, enjoying spring gardens and going to court to discuss matters, showing the unique social style and spirit of the times in the Song Dynasty. The manuscript is divided into six series. The first series tells the daily life of the Song Dynasty people; the second series describes the elegant entertainment and elegant tastes of the Song Dynasty literati; the third series describes the various social aspects of the Song Dynasty; the fourth series introduces the urban public facilities of the Song Dynasty; the fifth series focuses on presenting the commercial prosperity of the Song Dynasty; and the sixth series examines the etiquette issues in the political life of the Song Dynasty. With the convenience of using historical data, the author restored the life scenes of the characters in the Song Dynasty by searching hundreds of Song Dynasty paintings. At the same time, he also used a small number of Song Dynasty murals, brick carvings, unearthed cultural relics, and documents as supplements, as well as a few Tang paintings, Ming paintings, and Qing paintings as references to achieve mutual confirmation and comparison.
