Image Studies in the 20Th Century: from Iconology to Image Theory

This book consists of five chapters, which respectively describe the context of the emergence of image research in the 20th century, the rise and development of relevant theories of image research, and the key nodes of the changes in image concepts. It analyzes the theories of Panofsky's iconography methods, Gombrich's image language theory, Norman Bryson's image symbol research, Thomas Mitchell's reconstructed iconography and other image research scholars. Based on this, it attempts to clarify the evolution of image concepts in the 20th century and outline the development of image theory in the British and American circles in the 20th century. Since image theory is intertwined in the research of many disciplines, forming an open development form, this book combs the development process from iconography to image theory, combines image theory with the theories of many thinkers since the 20th century, reveals the rich cultural connotation and unique theoretical value of image theory, presents its significance to the humanities and the cultural public domain, and has great reference value for the study of contemporary art in my country.
