Showbiz: One Song, “Don't Cry, My Friend,” Brought the Whole Street to Tears

Su Qi transmigrates to a parallel world and auditions for the tenth season of the long-running talent show Voice of China. To make it to the national competition and win the original-song prize everyone overlooks, he performs songs he brought with him from Earth. His rendition of “Friend, Don’t Cry” makes everyone on the street look back on the past and burst into tears. The lyrics, “Friend, don’t cry. Believe in the path you’ve chosen. In this world, there are so many bewildered souls chasing their foolish dreams. I understand your pain; I’ve felt it too,” capture the sorrow of parting between friends, while reminding them to keep looking forward and always hold on to their tears. As “Friend, Don’t Cry” brings the whole street to tears, it also sparks heated discussion online. “Friend, whether we meet or not, I still miss you. Whether we keep in touch or not, I haven’t forgotten you.” “On graduation day, we said goodbye as usual. Years later, I finally understood: that day, the one saying goodbye to me was my youth. Goodbye, my friend.” Then! “Where the Phoenix Flowers Bloom” captures the reluctance and longing felt when friends part after sharing their youth. “Wine Away My Sorrows” sings of hope after despair. “Those Years” makes everyone online cry. From then on, Su Qi ushers in an era of tearjerker songs all his own. “Another song from Su the Great? I’m not going to cry this time!”
