The Kitakyushu serial imprisonment murder case occurred between 1996 and 1998, but it was not until 2002 that it came to light. This unprecedented and vicious case shocked Japan.
The principal offenders, Matsunaga Tai and Ogata Junko, were considered husband and wife although their marriage was not registered. Matsunaga carried out domestic violence against Ogata Junko for 20 years, and "brainwashed" the latter through both mental and physical abuse, making him his accomplice.
Six of the seven people killed were relatives of Ogata Junko. Matsunaga did not take action personally, but used violence to dominate the victims. He ranked his victims to create panic. In order not to be punished, in order not to fall to the bottom of the hierarchy, the victims spy on each other until they kill each other...

I admire Kyoko for running away from the risk of electric shock and having the mental strength to look back and testify in court, and I also admire the author's determination to write this book. Although during the reading process, I felt heart palpitating, dizzy and nauseous. When I first opened this book, I felt very uncomfortable after reading only a few pages, but I thought I would read it now that I had opened it, so I endured the discomfort and depression to finish it.

After reading the whole story, I feel frightened and gloomy. However, we should indeed learn to face these fears and find the deep roots behind crime, so as to avoid falling into the abyss of crime.
