Traditional fantasy + passionate heroics + ordinary-person cultivation + farming + scheming and political intrigue + one heroine + no mindless wish fulfillment
This is an ordinary-person cultivation novel that begins in a small martial-arts nation.
“Grandpa, you said you came from a place called Earth. Where is that? Can I go see it?”
“Grandpa, this... The Dao De Jing is a cultivation manual?”
“Can that really work?”
His grandfather replied, “Of course it can. Your father and mother cultivated this way and became immortals. But they said something about needing a spiritual root. I wonder where your parents are now, and how they’re doing.”
“Your name is Su Ruoning? That’s wonderful, just wonderful! I, Han Shi, have a little sister now!”
Han Shi smiled wryly and shook his head. “How about I let you have your way with me before you go, then?”
“Get lost!” The girl thumped Han Shi on the chest, then climbed off his sturdy body and turned her back to him.
“Go! Don’t let me see you again. Next time, I’ll kill you for sure.”
Han Shi stood up too and said with a faint smile, “All right, miss. If you can kill me, come and try.”
Hearing Han Shi about to leave, the girl’s heart pounded. “Wait, I’m Su Zaizai, from White Goose City. What’s your name?”
Han Shi leaped onto the eaves and sped off into the distance. Just as Su Zaizai was about to give up hope, a voice that made her cheeks flush drifted back to her.
“My name is Han Shi.”
