If there are beings more powerful than humans, humanity might call them gods. They could hardly be friendly toward us; they would come with hostile intentions.
Human society may appear peaceful, but perhaps the gods have already arrived, maliciously toying with foolish humanity. We might all be living in an endless dream, playthings for the gods after their meals.
Perhaps the Cthulhu Mythos isn't fiction at all, but a clue left behind by some god to make the game more entertaining, rewarding certain humans with a glimpse of a world that is both real and ancient.
