You Never Left

When we graduated from high school, you asked me, “Can we still be friends?”

But after all the chances we missed, can we really still be friends?

When we graduated from college, you came with me as we stepped out into the world.

But with all the problems of real life, can we still face them together?

The cruel truth and our lives moving out of sync eventually drove me to flee your world.

But when I looked back, I realized you were still standing there, waiting for me. You had never left.

Time is the finest author, and life is a passing landscape. It records and reveals our lives, guiding us toward the next stop.

Will I meet you again at the next stop?

Perhaps you can't say you have loved someone if you've never experienced it, but what remains after you've loved?

Growing up should perhaps be happy, but none of us were strong enough. Reality wore away our edges, time and again.

At every stage of life, we may meet someone who is right for us, or someone who isn't.

But when I look back, will you still be there? Or have you been behind me all along, never going far away...?
