The Sky as a Chessboard

In a small border town, a gifted young man passes the academy's examination. But the ruler refuses to give him the reward he deserves and even tries to kill him. Fortunately, a white fox saves his life.

Unaware of it, the young man is then maneuvered by someone behind the scenes into overthrowing the city lord, battling the wicked, saving his beloved, and toppling the emperor's rule.

As the young man grows step by step, he gradually sees through the truth of this world.

The people? Nothing but pawns.

He stands at the pinnacle of the world, yet it seems he is still caught in the game.

Fate has countless possible endings. Are you doomed to take only the path laid out for you?

(No golden finger, no transmigration, no rebirth. A coming-of-age story with one heroine.)
