Ripples on the River

The story begins in a small town. After Jiang Miao’s parents divorce, he moves back to the town with his mother and meets Gu Qinglian, a girl with a sunny disposition.

It’s very dark, and at his grandmother’s request, Jiang Miao walks Gu Qinglian home. Once they arrive, Gu Qinglian worries about him walking home alone. “Wait a minute.”

“What? Are you that worried about me?”

“Of course. If something happened to you, I’d have to live with the guilt. That would be exhausting. Should I walk you home too?”

Jiang Miao is speechless...

During lunch break, Jiang Miao turns around and sees Gu Qinglian drooling.

Trying not to laugh, he uses a tissue to wipe her mouth and the desk.

They thought they would just keep going together, letting things unfold naturally.

But then came Gu Qinglian’s letter: “Jiang Miao, don’t come looking for me. Let’s leave things here.” Jiang Miao frantically searched for her, but couldn’t find her.

Ten years later, Gu Qinglian sees Jiang Miao and throws herself at him. “Jiang Miao, I like you so, so much!”

Gu Qinglian, who do you think you are, coming and going whenever you please? Why should I still like you? Loving you is useless, but even so, I still do!

The river surges and roars, bustling with life in every corner. To the river, a tiny ripple must seem insignificant.

Perhaps Gu Qinglian was just an inconsequential passerby in Jiang Miao’s life...
