"Water Margin" edited by Chen Bin is the first chapter-style novel written in vernacular Chinese in Chinese history, and also the first full-length novel to praise the peasant uprising. The book describes the story of 108 heroes led by Song Jiang who gathered in Liangshan for a righteous cause. Through a series of stories of Liangshan heroes resisting oppression and fighting bravely, it reveals the sharply opposed social contradictions and the cruel reality of "officials forcing the people to rebel" in the late Northern Song Dynasty. The book creates many vivid and distinctive characters. They act chivalrously and fight violence, and have become heroes in the hearts of many readers.
Reader comments
It is more concise, clear and easy to understand than classical Chinese or books with many chapters. The book "Water Margin" is a must-read for middle school students like us. Usually everyone is reluctant to read it, but this one is short and allows us to understand the really useful parts. Highly recommended!
Except for some deletions, everything else is good [Like]
