Peach blossoms once flourished in the Eastern Palace, reflecting the innocent affection of two childhood sweethearts. But the towering red palace walls would ultimately imprison a young couple in a contest of political intrigue.
Xing Xingwan, daughter of the Grand Tutor, was raised in the palace from childhood. Born to be a pawn the emperor could use to balance the court, she nevertheless maintained the gentle, virtuous image of a crown princess. Her features were mild, her conduct impeccable, and her reputation for virtue flawless.
The vicissitudes of life in the inner palace had taught her that pawns were at the mercy of others, and love was merely a silken ribbon binding her in place. Only power could break her chains. She used gentleness as a shield and their childhood bond as a chess piece, advancing carefully through the palace’s hidden currents. She sought not a lifetime of exclusive affection, but supreme authority at his side.
Crown Prince Jun Mingyu gave Xing Xingwan the purest love of his life. His promise to protect her beneath the magnolia tree still rang in her ears, and the favor he showed her at court made everyone envious. But his desire for a splendid realm and envoys from every nation ultimately outweighed youthful love. Xing Xingwan had no powerful family to rely on, and whispers and suspicions at court cast a shadow over their childhood bond. He grew distant and cautious with her, yet the warmth of their daily life together gradually softened his calculations.
Their childhood affection was real, and so was their scheming over what served their interests. When the coldness of the imperial throne shattered their youthful love, the gentle crown princess became a fox within the palace walls. He indulged her ambition and turned a blind eye to her schemes, both because he could not bear to part with her and because of an emperor’s calculations: her intelligence was a sharp blade that could help secure his realm.
In this deadly game, born of love and ending in lust for power, only the one with the hardest heart and the steadiest hand can keep moving the pieces until the very end and claim victory.
Love is a bargaining chip, power the road home. In the inner palace, there is no such thing as undivided favor, only a struggle to the death.
I really followed it chapter by chapter. I saw that the heroine was confused about her love as a little girl, and now she sees the hero clearly. The acting is getting better and better. I have been very interested in it since I had a son in other stories. (I feel that the heroine's first daughter is super favored) and what surprised me the most is this. While the palace fight was exciting, I also saw the heroine holding an umbrella for women and actually setting up a school for women. It was very heartwarming. It was the first time I saw this in a palace fight, and everyone in it has their own personality and direction. They are not bad for the sake of being bad. The heroine has always had an above-average IQ. I really like it.
I just like this kind of growing up strong female character, it's a lot of fun to watch!
Very good, recommend it.
Wonderful, beautiful!
A very good Gong Dou Wen, with exciting plot and delicate writing. I highly recommend it!
It seems that every character is very three-dimensional. I finally saw some thoughtful writing. It is not just for the sake of fun. Everyone has flesh and blood, good and bad. Just not enough
Beautifully written!
