Shen Xiao, the most powerful minister in the Tianyan Dynasty, is ruthless and decisive, and knows nothing but taking what he wants by force. He appears calm and detached, but beneath the surface he is obsessive and unhinged. By a twist of fate, he saves Su Mu, a concubine-born daughter of the Su family, and for one reason after another, their fates become tightly entwined! Empress Dowager Liu Ruyu is in love with Shen Xiao, so she issues an edict bringing the nominal marriage pact between the Su and Feng families into effect. The two families are joined in marriage, and since Feng Yixing owes Su Mu a great debt and the Empress Dowager herself arranged the match, Su Mu has no choice but to accept! On the wedding day, Shen Xiao, who holds power over the entire court, tosses an imperial edict into Feng Yixing’s arms. Dressed all in black, he takes Feng Yixing’s place and, before everyone’s eyes, bows with Su Mu before Heaven and Earth, then accompanies her to the bridal chamber! Overnight, the story of powerful minister Shen Xiao stealing a bride becomes known throughout the land! And the promising young Feng Yixing becomes the laughingstock of the entire capital. In the bridal chamber, Su Mu waits in vain for Feng Yixing. Instead, she sees Shen Xiao dressed in black. The man’s peerlessly handsome face is expressionless, his eyes as dark as spilled ink and still as a dead pool, fixed on her! For one brief moment, a terror wells up from the depths of her soul, making her tremble!
“Where is he?” Shen Xiao sits on the bed, sweeping aside his robe. “Su Mu, it was I who took the vows with you, so naturally it will be I who shares your bridal chamber. Who do you mean by ‘he’?” Su Mu speaks through her fear. “Shen Xiao, you’ve gone too far.” Seeing the corners of her eyes turn red, Shen Xiao grips her chin with his fingertips. “Why try to run? Do you still want to flee somewhere I can’t see you? Su Mu, you were the one who came after me first. Don’t even think about escaping.” Su Mu refuses to believe in fate. Again and again, she escapes from Shen Xiao, but he always appears before her with the same cool indifference.
