The stock market is a vast magnet, drawing in countless adventurers. It is also a battlefield of ever-shifting fortunes, where the merciless reality is that the clever grow strong while the weak are left battered and bruised. The powerful see the bloodshed as only natural, while onlookers regard it as a spectacle.

But the truth is a warning: no matter how you dominate this market or how much you profit in a moment of triumph, it is all temporary. Nobody can guarantee they will remain a winner on this battlefield forever, or be an undefeated general. Consider the rise and fall of Soros's army, the Quantum Fund. He orchestrated one financial war after another in international securities markets, giving the Bank of England no end of trouble. In the history of capitalist expansion, forged in fire and sword in modern times, the British Empire had been so mighty and overbearing. Yet in the end, it lacked even the courage to fight Soros to the bitter end, and he made billions of pounds. From 1995 to 1997, Soros deployed tens of billions of dollars and swept through Asia using short-selling, leaving Thailand and Malaysia in misery. The leaders of both countries loathed him, wishing they could tear off his skin and devour his flesh. Whenever Soros appeared in a country, that country's leaders would become a hundred percent on edge.
