One’s family of origin is important to everyone.
For those who grew up in a happy family, home is a warm refuge from the storm, a gas station that constantly replenishes their energy, and a vital source of support that gives them the confidence to walk life’s long road.
But not everyone comes from a happy family. For those who grew up in an unhappy one, home is a cage, a shackle, a vampire that endlessly drains them, and an executioner that destroys their chance at happiness.
Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. The emotional abuse suffered by Xiaochu, the character in this story, also exists in some families in real life. It is especially common in households steeped in feudal thinking.
