In 184, atop Guangzong’s city wall.
Zhang Jue clutched his chest, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. Beyond the wall, military banners fluttered, and government troops filled the land as far as the eye could see.
Anger surged through him, clouding his vision until the world grew ever more blurred. The deep darkness seemed ready to swallow everything before him.
With a “pfft,” another mouthful of blood sprayed from his lips. Beside him, his family cried out in alarm.
“Brother!” “Eldest brother!” “Father!”
Leaning on his staff, Zhang Jue stretched his other hand back, palm open wide, signaling for his family not to worry.
Blood stained the front of his robe, but his vision cleared.
Panting, Zhang Jue staggered down from the wall. In the center of Guangzong, a huge ritual array stood before him.
High piles of stone and timber had been stacked at each point of the array. Judging by the damage to the surrounding houses, the materials had clearly been torn from them.
Zhang Jue walked to the center of the formation and raised both hands. The staff in his grasp pointed straight at the sky.
He said, “O Heavens, let me give the Yellow Heaven the last of my fortune with my life. May they succeed.”
As Zhang Jue finished speaking, a bolt of yellow lightning shot down from the gloomy black clouds. When it faded, nothing remained at the center of the array but a pile of ashes.
The world setting is okay, but the protagonist is lazy and has no subjective initiative in the end of the world, which is not good to watch.
