Moonlit Mountains and Rivers, the Lingxiao City

At the end of the Ming and the beginning of the Qing, Li Zicheng's Great Shun army was defeated at Shanhai Pass after occupying Beijing for just forty-two days, and hurriedly withdrew from the capital. Wu Sangui surrendered to the Qing, and the Manchu Eight Banners entered the pass under Dorgon, crushing the Great Shun army and beginning the campaign to unite the Central Plains. Li Yan, once a general under Li Zicheng, was driven by Li Zicheng's suspicions to leave the Great Shun army with three thousand soldiers from Qixian County, Henan, and make his way to southern Sichuan. Determined to keep fighting the Manchu forces, Li Yan joined local heroes Meng Tiancheng, Lin Shangqing, Yang Xiao, Bai Langtao, and others to raise an army and defend their homeland. Amid the towering mountains of southern Sichuan, they fought a fierce, bloody battle against the Manchu Eight Banners led by Dorgon.
