Si Xiaonian, the graceful and charming owner of the Sinian Workshop, and Yan Wuming, the gentle physician of Ren'an Hall, appear to be a much-admired couple in Hualing City. In truth, however, they are a top assassin in the martial world hiding her identity and the commander of the imperial court's secret guard, the Jinwei Bureau. Ever since they met, the two have lived double lives. No matter how ruthless and decisive they are when carrying out missions, they are always tender and affectionate when they are with the people they love. Just then, the former crown prince, who spent ten years as a hostage in an enemy nation, is about to return to the city. Si Xiaonian and Yan Wuming receive missions at the same time: one must secretly assassinate the heir, while the other must protect him and ensure he reaches the city safely. Unbeknownst to them, the loving couple now stand on opposing sides, and an even greater conspiracy is gradually coming to light.

At this very moment, the former heir, who spent ten years as a hostage in an enemy nation, is about to return to the city. Si Xiaonian and Yan Wuming receive missions at the same time. Forced to do everything in their power to complete their respective missions, the two begin to suspect that their opponent may be the person lying beside them. A series of calculated tests and suspicions follows, until the masks they have so carefully maintained are finally torn away. Yet even though their loyalties conflict, neither can deny that they have loved each other all along. Whether to kill or protect the heir becomes a dilemma once more. But gradually, they discover that the mission may have come from the very same source, and that they have already been drawn into a far greater conspiracy...
