When Seagulls Cry

On October 4–5, 1986, the members of the Ushiromiya family gather for their annual conference. Their children learn that the family patriarch, Kinzo, has little time left, and each begins plotting how to divide the inheritance. Then a typhoon hits. The phones are dead, the boats cannot leave the harbor, and the eighteen people on the island are completely cut off from the outside world. A series of mysterious murders begins.

As these people scheme against one another for the family fortune, they suddenly receive a suspicious letter from a “witch.” Could there really be a nineteenth person on the island? Brutal murders keep taking place, and unsolvable mysteries are left at the scenes. Who will die next, and who will survive? Will everyone be killed? Is the culprit one of the eighteen, or the mysterious “witch”?
