Autonomy is a long-standing form of governance. The outstanding feature of China's traditional governance system is that "imperial power extends to the county, and the gentry governs the countryside." Rural affairs mainly rely on the power of the village to handle itself. Since the 1980s, my country has implemented villagers' autonomy in rural areas, giving villagers' autonomy a national legal status and the resulting equal autonomy rights for every villager. This book studies the issue of protecting the rights of villagers to self-governance in the process of rural governance modernization, especially the issue of protecting the rights of villagers to directly participate in the governance of village affairs. The book has five chapters in total. Chapters 1 and 2 are the basis of this book, respectively discussing the theoretical basis and historical process of farmers' right to self-government and the basic content of farmers' right to self-government.
