Burmese Peoples and Their Languages

This book is one of the "One Belt and One Road" language research series of the University of Minzu of China. It is also the final result of the sub-project "Investigation and Research on the Current Situation of Cross-Border Languages ​​in China", a major project of the National Language Work Steering Committee's "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" scientific research plan. This book mainly introduces the social and humanistic overview of Myanmar, Myanmar's language and its language policy, the current situation of Myanmar language use, Myanmar's Chinese education, etc. In addition to sifting and using existing literature, most of the materials in the book were obtained by the research team's many field trips to Myanmar. This book adopts a multi-disciplinary comprehensive investigation method. In addition to the case investigation method, on-site observation method, character interview method and comprehensive judgment method, it also uses the method of experimental phonetics to record the language objects under investigation and conduct phonetic experiments on the important phonetic features. The study of Myanmar's ethnic groups and languages ​​is part of my country's cross-border ethnic and language research. Since Myanmar's ethnic groups and their languages ​​are characterized by diversity and complexity, this book will surely enrich the disciplinary construction of cross-border language studies, provide some new understandings of ethnology, sociology, linguistics, history, and religion, and provide valuable reference for how to solve language problems in multi-ethnic countries in the process of modernization.
