Kai Shen was an ordinary member of the Hook civilization. Recently, he had become obsessed with a cultivation game called Universe Online. A devoted player, he registered an account and spent five Hook years grinding away. On his holographic display, he watched the universe he had created, the Kai Shen Universe, unfold across its own timeline. It was already 13.8 billion years old. Then, 4.6 billion years ago, a blue planet took shape in one of the trillions of galaxies across the vast cosmos. Low-level four-dimensional life emerged on Blue Star, and in the last two million years, human civilization appeared. It had now reached Level 0.7.

Following the speed of light and fundamental constants Kai Shen had set as the rules governing the universe's evolution, humanity still needed another 800 million years to reach Level 7 civilization. Over five Hook years of expansion, the Kai Shen Universe had formed countless galaxies and given rise to six billion civilizations of different levels. Kai Shen was deeply captivated by the game, especially by humanity's development over the past five thousand years. In the last hundred years, humans had begun exploring beyond Blue Star in search of other civilizations. But because their civilization was still so primitive, their probes had reached only 92 billion light-years out, still 300 billion light-years short of the nearest civilization. Their progress was far too slow. Of all six billion civilizations, Kai Shen liked humanity best, and he became ever more addicted and absorbed in the game. So he continued expanding the Kai Shen Universe. After setting its fundamental constants, he resolutely transformed into a four-dimensional consciousness and entered the universe he had created in Universe Online, taking on the character he had made for himself: Zhou Lin.
