The subject matter is simply too unique among other novels. It interprets the often discussed so-called human nature issues from a biological perspective, which is really novel.
I read this book sporadically over a span of about four or five months. I read it again on a whim and never forgot the previous plot content. This is evident from the author's layout and story setting.
My interpretation of the title of the book "Rain in the Atacama" is a very abnormal but real and reasonable fact. The essence is the phenomenon of heavy rain in the Atacama Desert at the dry end of the world. This is used as an introduction in the book and extends to the metaphor of "cannibalism" that may exist between modern Homo sapiens and other human species during the evolution process. Problem, this statement should not be widely recognized in mainstream society today, but it is indeed thought-provoking. It interprets human nature from a more scientific perspective. Even if it has a dark side, we must face it with a positive attitude. Maybe this is vitality, and there is a metaphor at the end of the novel.
The author has laid out a big plot. In the torrent of the times, two ordinary families and even a larger area have undergone tremendous changes by chance, causing the greater forces behind them to set off waves of storms. Everything happened inadvertently, just like the thief kid in Egypt. Did he know that what he stole was more than priceless? Do the people who are eyeing the Wishing Grail and the Eye of Horus know that the person who stole these cultural relics is just an ordinary child? In fact, in my mind, the ending could be more complete and grand, but then I thought about it, this is good enough. All the storms will end in peace in the end, and this wave has calmed down for the time being. Will another wave of more waves not arise again? Will the game between various consortium capitals or even between humans and the unknown be suspended? Pen and ink are always limited, and the art of blank space can express this grand theme more vividly.
There is much more to say than that. Everything is unsaid and hidden in our common genes.
(I really feel sorry for the niche audience of this novel. In today's fast-paced era, how many people will stop and think about where we want to go?)
