Synopsis

The Fifty-three Tokaido Road refers to the 53 inns that the Tokaido Road, a post road from Edo to Kyoto in Japan's Edo period, passed through. The Tokaido was the most prosperous post road in Japan at that time, with many scenic spots and famous shops and specialties along the way. It has always been a classic theme of Ukiyo-e paintings. The famous Ukiyo-e masters Utagawa Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai have both made series of paintings. This book is mainly based on Hiroshige's classic version of "The Fifty-Three Times on the Tokaido Road", with Tokaido Ukiyo-e paintings created by Hokusai, Kunisada and other masters, and compared them one by one to explain the scenery stories, local customs and different artistic styles. Hiroshige reproduces the various scenery of Tokaido as the seasons and climate change in a leisurely style. He integrates various character activities into the natural scenery, embodying the implicit and elegant artistic conception unique to Japanese waka, and is filled with a calm and distant lyrical atmosphere.

This book is very good! It introduces the Japanese ukiyo-e master Utagawa Hiroshige and compares the works of other masters, so that we can better understand the artistic style of ukiyo-e. Hiroshige's landscape paintings are so beautiful. His "Fifty-three Tokaido Roads" and "One Hundred Famous Scenes of Edo" made me feel like I was actually there. Just like "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" which I have read before, it is also a classic of Ukiyo-e. I think the author Wang Zi is very powerful. He can explain such a complex art so clearly, which gave me a deeper understanding of Utagawa Hiroshige. If you are also interested in Ukiyo-e, you must read this book!

I would like to read a book similar to "Jungian Psychology". Are there any OC references or books to study? I prefer Jungian psychology/personality typology. Others can also be recommended. Religion, writing skills, mysticism, psychology, and design can all be recommended.
