The Apocalypse Road, Codename: Light of Civilization

(A heavily reworked Red Alert setting with a relatively believable power fantasy) Human history reached the end of the 21st century. Artificial intelligence advanced at an incredible pace, and human productivity made a quantum leap. At the same time, the world’s population exploded. To ease the pressure, some world leaders poured resources into nuclear fusion and aerospace, while others invested heavily in building virtual worlds. But no one could have imagined that, in the short span of ten years from 2088 to 2098, Earth’s climate would undergo such drastic changes. Countless species went extinct, the polar ice caps melted, sea levels surged, and the weather became impossible to predict. Over the next few years, global temperatures first rose abnormally high, then plunged just as strangely. Thick cloud cover formed in the troposphere and kept growing denser. Advanced nations set up dedicated research teams, but as their projects progressed, scientists began dying under bizarre circumstances, their work ran into one unexpected obstacle after another, and artificial intelligences were repeatedly hijacked by viruses and turned against humanity. Meanwhile, nations fought one another again and again for resources. A wealth of clues pointed to the largest organization in the virtual world: New Yuan World. No one knew who was really pulling the strings, or who was sabotaging humanity’s efforts to save itself. In 2099, a terrifying flu pandemic swept across the globe. No one could have foreseen that it would be the final straw that broke human civilization. Yan Bin, a newly enlisted special police officer, does his best to survive and adapt in this oppressive, terrifying era, all while searching for the truth.
