Su Shi (January 8, 1037 - August 24, 1101), also known as Zizhan, also known as Dongpo Jushi. Chinese writer, calligrapher, gourmet and painter in the Northern Song Dynasty.
In 1057, he took part in the imperial examination and passed the second subject, and was awarded the rank of Jinshi (one theory is that he was given the background of Jinshi). In 1061, he took the imperial examination and was awarded the title of Judge of Dali and Judge of Fengxiang Prefecture. During the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, he served in Hangzhou, Mizhou, Xuzhou, Huzhou and other places. In 1080, due to the Wutai Poetry Case, he was demoted to the deputy envoy of Huangzhou Tuanlian. After Zhezong of the Song Dynasty came to the throne, he served as a bachelor of Hanlin, a bachelor of attendants, and a minister of the Ministry of Rites, and was assigned to govern Hangzhou, Yingzhou, Yangzhou, Dingzhou and other places. As the new party came to power, he was demoted to Huizhou and Danzhou. During the reign of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, he was pardoned and returned to the north, but died of illness in Changzhou. During the Southern Song Dynasty, he was posthumously awarded the title of Grand Master, with the posthumous title "Wenzhong".
Su Shi was a literary leader in the mid-Northern Song Dynasty and made great achievements in poetry, lyrics, prose, calligraphy, and painting. The poem has a broad subject matter, is fresh and bold, is good at using exaggerated metaphors, and has a unique style. Together with Huang Tingjian, it is called "Su Huang"; His prose writings are rich, unbridled and unrestrained. Together with Ouyang Xiu, he is known as "Ou Su". Together with Han Yu, Liu Zongyuan, Ouyang Xiu, Su Xun, Su Che, Wang Anshi and Zeng Gong, he is known as the "Eight Great Masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties". He is good at calligraphy, and together with Huang Tingjian, Mi Fu and Cai Xiang, he is known as the "Four Masters of the Song Dynasty". He is good at literati painting, especially ink bamboo, strange rocks, dead wood, etc.
