A Wife from the Heavens

[Comedy + face-slapping] You want to take my wife? Then I'll take your empire! Any man who covets my woman will be crippled. Anyone who lays a hand on her will die!

Li Sanjin's family had been butchers for generations, but he was too timid to even pick up a butcher's knife as a child. The village kids mocked him for being less manly than a girl and nicknamed him Li Meier!

Then one day, he met a brilliant scholar who awakened his desire to study.

Li Sanjin's mother told him, “Scholars are useless. Instead of wasting time studying, you should learn butchering from your father. Then you'll have meat to eat every day.”

But Li Sanjin chose to believe the scholar who sold calligraphy and paintings from a street stall.

After his parents died, Li Sanjin, who couldn't butcher pigs, tried to make ends meet by running the shabby calligraphy-and-painting stall. He had to sell the family's only two pigs just to get by. Before long, he'd spent everything, and all that remained of the family business was a run-down shack. Li Sanjin became the poorest person in the village.

Staring at the shabby stall, he couldn't help sighing. “Mother was right. Scholars are useless. Trust one, and you'll starve to death sooner or later.”

Then one day, he caught the girl next door meeting another man in secret, and suddenly he wanted a wife of his own.

But because he was poor, the matchmaker only found him women who were either lame or blind. Li Sanjin refused to give up and kept pestering her to find him a pretty girl.

The matchmaker scolded him furiously. “Take a good look at yourself! With what you've got, you think you can find a wife as beautiful as a fairy? Hmph! You'd have to wait for the heavens to go blind and drop one right onto your doorstep!”

Then a miracle happened. With a loud crash, a huge hole appeared in the roof, and a white-robed fairy fell right onto Li Sanjin's bed...
