Synopsis: Ruan Xiaoyu’s soul is transported into the body of a woman who fled famine in the 1980s and married far away. She opens her eyes in the bridal chamber, kicks her way out, and runs for her life, only to stumble into the village’s forbidden territory: the home of the fiercest, poorest, most ill-fated man around, said to bring ruin to all his relatives. She foolishly threatens him, too.
And so she becomes his hired hand.
She calls him: “Black-faced King of Hell!”
He snaps back: “You clueless little soft corn!”
Rumor has it he’s ruthless and has killed countless people.
Ruan Xiaoyu: “That’s a lie. He even shakes when he kills a chicken!”
Rumor has it his poor wife won’t live more than a year.
Years later, Ruan Xiaoyu points at Yan Zhihao’s nose and scolds him.
The rumors are updated: “Don’t mess with the village’s living King of Hell, and his soft-corn wife is even more dangerous. She hides a knife behind that smile!”
In their peaceful little courtyard, Ruan Xiaoyu gazes at the rugged King of Hell after he shaves his beard and sighs, “A gentleman as handsome as jade. Delicious!”
