This is a philosophical book that uses evolutionary psychology theory to confirm Buddhist views, thereby helping people discover their truer selves and gain great wisdom in life. This book is the result of many years of research and practice by Robert Wright, an American evolutionary psychologist and one of the 100 most influential thinkers in the world. From a modern perspective, the book uses the knowledge of evolutionary psychology to verify the five cognitive truths about human beings originally said by the Buddha: (1) Our happiness is actually genes. It is designed and genetically programmed to be dissatisfied (suffering); (2) happiness and troubles are "feelings" (not-self); (3) people are essentially driven by feelings (selflessness); (4) we cannot objectively view everything in the world (empty); (5) we can be freed from troubles and suffering (meditation). It also teaches us to break through brain illusions through mindfulness and self-control training, achieve separation from various feelings, thereby getting rid of troubles and pain, and becoming wiser and happier.
