War and Beauty

The man I loved brought a woman home and announced in front of me that she would be the only woman he’d ever marry.

I asked him where that left me.

He replied lightly, “Your Highness is a princess of noble birth, far above my station. I wouldn’t dare aspire to you.”

He wasn’t wrong. I was the only princess of the Great An Dynasty, and plenty of refined gentlemen and dashing young men wanted to get to know me.

Later, handsome men surrounded me, while he knelt at my feet, begging me to show him some affection.

I smiled brightly. “Get lost.”
