So This Is What an Apocalypse That Follows the Laws of Science Looks Like

I strive for realism above all! No protagonist plot armor, no data System, no superhuman intelligence, no supplies on hand, no harem collecting, no evolution or mutation.

At the heart of this book is an exploration of human reason and bonds, and the conflict between emotion and reality in extreme circumstances. There is no saintly savior who compassionately rescues the world, nor any selfish person who claims to be “decisive and ruthless” out of mere reckless bravery. People struggling through the apocalypse still have the right to dream of a brighter future. Even when love and tenderness have been squeezed to the limit, they still deserve a place in the world.

Traditional apocalyptic novels tend to strengthen the protagonist’s individual abilities while downplaying teamwork. I personally believe this is misguided. In reality, one person’s strength is always limited, and humanity has always advanced through cooperation. Unity allowed us to defeat beasts far stronger than us, like lions and tigers, while love makes us humble and brings us to life. Being invincible, humiliating your enemies, and showing off may feel great, but few things are as reassuring as having companions you can trust with your back. People who die for love or sacrifice themselves for others surely exist. What’s truly unrealistic is the idea that everyone is absolutely selfish and dark-hearted. Strip away the supernatural abilities, Systems, and all sorts of fighting techniques, medical skills, and professional expertise in a novel, and the protagonist is just a clown fighting alone. No one can survive the apocalypse on their own. This so-called “realistic” apocalypse of “extreme selfishness” is nothing but some people’s fantasy.

I hope you’ll read my work with an open mind and a generous spirit. When you come across a plot point in this book that’s hard to understand, please try to see things from the characters’ perspectives rather than taking an omniscient view. Finally, I hope you enjoy this book.
