The Mo Clan's Young Daughter Takes Charge

That year, the three of them swore brotherhood, sharing straw and rings of grass. Though they had not been born on the same day, month, and year, they vowed to die on the same day, month, and year.

That night, she called them to a nearby earthen hill. They drank wine and lay back to watch the stars. She realized that life in the military camp could be pleasant too. With her thoughts at rest, no fussy military rituals, no battle reports from the soldiers, and no clanging weapons, life like this was actually quite good. All was still, and only I was awake, beneath the twinkling stars...

That night, she drank to every time they had stood side by side and fought the enemy, to every death and every rebirth…

That year, she was all that remained of the Mo family. She did not know who would protect the people and lands they had fought for in the years to come. The emperor was still the emperor, and the crown prince was still the crown prince! It seemed nothing had changed, yet somehow everything had.

On that rainy night, she slowly lost consciousness. Through the haze, she saw someone with a knife, severing the tendons in her hands and feet. The rain grew heavier and the water rose almost to her nose. Breathing became harder, and her body grew colder and colder…

They say Heaven has eyes. So why were hers blind to her suffering?

So what if her tendons had been severed!

So what if she had been sold like livestock!

If evil spirits came, she would drive them out. If fate came for her, she would refuse to believe in it!

If injustice made her a demon, then she would become the righteous path!
