In the age of chaos, Pangu split heaven and earth, giving rise to the five races of gods, immortals, demons, monsters, and humans. The five races enjoyed a peaceful, happy time, but in ancient times, the demon race suddenly ran amok. The Demon Lord Yue Shang Yaoze led the demons and monsters in an assault on the Ninth Heaven. The gods were wiped out in the battle, and the immortals suffered more than fifty percent casualties. All they managed to do was seal Yue Shang Yaoze away. Humans had no magic at all and posed no threat to the other four races, so they were fortunate to avoid heavy losses.
Forty thousand years later, just after the heroine Hua Man regains her memories, she is lured to the seal at Mount Buzhou, where she accidentally awakens the Demon God Yue Shang Yaoze. But as he awakens, the two are bound together by the Life-Bond Curse and the Buli Lock.
After that, Hua Man's identity grows increasingly suspicious. Yue Shang Yaoze promises to help her do what she wants, and she agrees to help him do what he wants.
As time passes, they discover that the events leading up to the war between gods and demons are growing ever more suspicious, and the true mastermind behind it all gradually comes to light.
