Qin Li jolted awake from a dream and quickly looked at the girl beside him. He didn’t relax until he saw her sleeping peacefully. He got out of bed and made himself a cup of coffee. Pausing by the window, he gazed at the stars outside and reached for a cigarette on the curtain rail, only to remember that the girl seemed to have thrown them away. He gave up, took a few helpless sips of coffee, and thought about his dream.
In the dream, he was in a sea of flowers, surrounded by baby’s breath in every shade. Qin Li still thought the sky-blue flowers were the prettiest. The girl was there too, standing in the middle of the flower field. Qin Li already knew who she was, but he still couldn’t see her face clearly. Every time, the dream ended abruptly…
As Qin Li sat lost in thought, a woman’s faint voice sounded behind him: “Why are you still awake? Come over here. I want a kiss.”
The girl looked drowsy, yet she was still acting coquettishly. Qin Li couldn’t help feeling helpless.
“You’re all grown up, but you’re still as childish as a little girl.”
“I don’t care. I want a kiss.”
“All right, all right!”
Qin Li went over, kissed the girl on the forehead, and soothed her back to sleep before returning to bed himself.
There was nothing in the dream.
Only the coffee by the window still gave off clouds of steam.
