The Act

The day I died in the hospital, he was getting engaged to the woman he loved from afar.

I called him, hoping to see him one last time.

He replied coldly, “Stop playing these games. They won’t work on me.”

Later, the hospital called. He came rushing over, stumbled in, and broke down as he held my body.

Oh? So now he’s putting on an act of regret?

Too bad I’m already dead. It won’t work.
