Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Tang Dynasty to the Mid-Tang Dynasty (which can be set from the late Kaiyuan period of Xuanzong to a few years before the outbreak of the An-Shi Rebellion, or the complex period when vassal rule first emerged after the An-Shi Rebellion), through a group of core characters whose identities, classes, and destinies are intertwined, the most fundamental spectrum of human nature, such as desire for power, idealism, survival instincts, love and hatred, and struggles with faith, is shown at key points when the empire turns from its peak to undercurrents (or seeks to rebuild from chaos). The palace (Daming Palace) is not only the physical center, but also the ultimate symbol of power and desire, and it is also a testing ground for human nature.
