(Aside from the romance between the main couple, all the other short stories are tragic. These are old-fashioned tragic romances. The tags were mistakenly set to sweet romance, and I can’t change them now, so please bear with me.) Meng Shu, Lady Meng, loves nothing more than gossip.
“Your partner cheated on you? Let me see!”
“Your scumbag ex is begging you to take him back? I have to watch this!”
“You got revenge on your wicked mother-in-law and struck it rich, becoming a noble? I’ll be the first one at the banquet!”
“Three husbands and four concubines, a life like that sounds like a winner’s. Let me see it for myself!”
She gossips all she wants, but she causes plenty of trouble too. The King of Hell, who can’t go five seconds without getting into a furious argument with Lady Meng, says, “Whoever has to clean up after a violent woman like Lady Meng is doomed to a lifetime of bad luck.”
Later…
“Your Majesty! Lady Meng blew up the Underworld and remodeled the Eighteen Levels of Hell!”
“Give her the budget and let her renovate! You know better than to mess with a woman on her period!”
“Bad news, Your Majesty! Lady Meng heard you’ve been slandering her behind her back, and she’s going to find herself a pretty boy!”
“What?! Wife, darling, I was wrong!” The usually composed King of Hell doesn’t care about saving face anymore. Afraid his wife might run off with someone else, he drops his pen and races to the Bridge of Helplessness.
---The Lady Meng you called has blocked you. Next time you slander your wife, make sure to check that the mole she’s taken in isn’t listening!
This is an old trope, and the story has a similar style to Fox Spirit Matchmaker, Half-Face Makeup, and Mr. Nobody. If you enjoy short stories, come on in and have a look!
How did you manage to keep being so sweet in the early stage? The author is great
