Hong Kong is located in southern China, east of the Pearl River Estuary, on the edge of the South China Sea, and belongs to the Lingnan region. Hong Kong before 1840 was a small fishing village. From 1842 to 1997, Hong Kong became a British colony. After the Second World War, Hong Kong's economy and society developed rapidly, becoming not only one of the Four Asian Tigers, but also one of the richest, most economically developed and highest living standards in the world. On July 1, 1997, the People's Republic of China officially resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong. This book is based on "The Vicissitudes of Hong Kong Across the Century" (first edition in December 1995, originally included in "Lingnan Library"), and has been supplemented and revised. It is now renamed "A Brief History of Hong Kong (1840-1997)". The book briefly describes Hong Kong's ancient history and culture, and reviews Hong Kong's development from the First Opium War to 1997 in chronological order, ending with Hong Kong's return. This book is included in the "Lingnan Library" and is one of the reprint series of the "Lingnan Library". The original book was published in early December 1995 and was titled "The Vicissitudes of Hong Kong Across the Century". It is now revised and reprinted and renamed "A Brief History of Hong Kong (1840-1997)". The book has a total of 250,000 words.
