"Be Like a Bird Flying to Your Mountain"

Tara was born in Buck's Peak Mountain, Idaho, the youngest of five brothers and one sister. Tara's childhood was made of scrap copper and iron from the garbage dump. Instead of the sound of reading aloud, she was accompanied by the roar of cranes. The father was not allowed to have anything to do with the federal government. The children did not go to school when they were young and were taught some basic knowledge by their mother at home. The four children did not have birth certificates and did not go to the hospital to see a doctor or nurse. She did not have an extended birth certificate until she was 9 years old.
