The Beijing-Guangzhou Railway was built in sections. The northernmost section was originally called the "Lugou-Baoding Railway", that is, the railway from Marco Polo Bridge to Baoding. To put it bluntly, this section of railway has been through vicissitudes for hundreds of years. It cultivated the earliest working class in my country and created the earliest industrial civilization in Beijing. This section of railway has become an index of Beijing's modern history, linking together a series of major historical events such as the Boxer Rebellion, the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the May Fourth Movement, the early revolutionary practices of the Communist Party of China, the Anti-Japanese War, and the War of Liberation. This novel describes the half-century legend of the Lubao Railway and the joys and sorrows of several generations of railway workers. It has become a microcosm of Beijing's modern history and is an epic literary work.
