If living is a sin, then death is unforgivable. Perhaps everything is a new beginning. When you close your eyes and open them again...
Liu Ye is an orphan. Some say he was found by a deaf-mute old man who collected scrap, at the foot of a mountain. Others say that the old man stole him from somewhere far away. His difficult life kept him at the very bottom of the social ladder, where he faced all manner of mockery and contempt. But he had grown used to it from an early age. When he was in first grade at the village primary school, his classmates learned the truth from their parents and hurled cruel insults at him whenever they argued. The first time he learned that his grandfather had lied when he gestured that his parents were working far away, he wasn't all that sad. He silently shed a few tears, then felt nervous and afraid. He was afraid his grandfather would abandon him. He was afraid of going hungry, because every morning his grandfather made breakfast and set some aside for him to eat at lunch before climbing onto his battered tricycle and heading out. He was afraid he wouldn't have new clothes for the New Year. He was afraid of thunder on rainy days, and would curl up tightly in his grandfather's arms each time. So from that day on, he became very obedient and started learning to do simple chores. His eyes were full of attempts to please the only family he had, his grandfather. Even when he did something wrong and his grandfather struck him a few times with a bamboo switch, he endured it without a sound. His grandfather never hit very hard, but it still hurt. And every time he finished, his grandfather would hold his head and cry. To this day, Liu Ye still couldn't understand why. Now he knelt at his grandfather's grave. Even that tiny bit of security was gone. At least he was in high school now. What path would a child like him take...
